Heartwood to Host Southwest Virginia Wine Festival June 16

Heartwood to Host Southwest Virginia Wine Festival June 16

Abingdon, Va. (PRWEB) May 18, 2012

Wine & cheese are so five minutes ago. The Southwest Virginia Wine Festival pairs wine, mead, and cider from the region’s artisan trails with music from The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The inaugural event is on tap for Saturday, June 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway. Tickets are $ 20 per person in advance or $ 25 per person the day of the event and may be purchased online at http://www.swvawinefestival.com.

“We saw an opportunity to embrace different aspects of our region’s emerging creative economy in a meaningful way,” said event organizer and Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Foundation executive director, Todd Christensen. “We see the same opportunity to draw international acclaim to the wine, mead, and cider from the ‘Round the Mountain Artisan Trails of Southwest Virginia as The Crooked Road did to our heritage music.”

The 19-county, four-city region produces an extensive range of award-winning wines, as well as cider and mead, all of which will be poured by participating Artisan Trail members − Abingdon Vineyard and Winery, Blacksnake Meadery, Coltsfoot Winery, Davis Valley Winery, Foggy Ridge Cider, MountainRose Vineyards, Vincent’s Vineyard, and West Wind Farm Vineyard and Winery − during the event. Food demonstrations and tastings by local restaurants, ‘Round the Mountain artisan demonstrations, and a souvenir wine glass are also included in the ticket price.

Southwest Virginia wines are drawing acclaim from the region’s unique attributes, the combination of everything belonging to its specific appellation − soil, weather conditions, grapes, vines, air − even the vintners themselves. Artisanal mead and cider lend depth and interest to the region’s offerings.

“The reclaimed mine land has actually worked out better for us than we thought,” says winemaker, Suzanne Lawson, who, along with her husband, Ron, and their son, David, converted a reclaimed surface mine into MountainRose Vineyards in Wise County. “That mining has brought up the minerals from deep within, and we think that’s one of the reasons our wines are particularly nice,” she surmises. “Reclaiming that land − mines to wines − is part of our unique story.”

Mountain Park Old Time Band will pair big, bold tunes from The Crooked Road with

red wines possessing the same character, as well as lighter music with the whites. “They come on like a house on fire,” says Crooked Road co-founder, Joe Wilson, referring to the traditional, old-time music the group, known for its ability to get people on their feet dancing, plays “with plenty of gusto”.

Online ticketing and more information about the June 16 Southwest Virginia Wine Festival, which is sponsored in part by Food City and Jerry Peters Sales, can be found online at http://www.swvawinefestival.com or by calling (276) 492-2400. Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artistan Gateway is located at Exit 14 on I-81 in Abingdon, Va.

Kung Fu Plaza Restaurant Serves Up Elvis Presley

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 06, 2012

Kung Fu Plaza, which is the oldest and most authentic Thai restaurants in Las Vegas, is adding a selection of wines from Elvis Presley Wine Cellars. The winery is located in the San Joaquin valley of California.

Last year, Kung Fu Plaza added wines from the William Hill Estate Winery in support of local music programs and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The fundraising effort concluded at the end of last April.

“We are slowly growing our wine lists that have a natural link to Las Vegas, making wine tasting more fun for visiting Thai people and carefully selected wines that we already know will taste good with the food,” said Alan Wong, general manager of Kung Fu Plaza. “The Elvis wines fit well on both counts. They have a Vegas-connected brand and also bolder flavors that match very well with Thai and Chinese cuisine.”

Adding a selection of Elvis Presley-branded wines is part of Wong’s effort to find the best wine matches for Thai cuisine after being inspired by the increasing interest in European wines by the Chinese. In addition to encouraging an interest in wine, China is home to several vineyards that produce Chardonnay and Riesling wines in the Sichuan region.

“The wines we serve are mostly from Southern California, but I’ve been researching wineries from all over the world,” said Wong. “Naturally, people generally avoid tannic wines with hot and spicy foods, but not all Thai foods are spicy. Red wines can work with heavier dishes. One of our favorites from the Elvis Presley Wine Cellars is the Blue Hawaii, which is a sweeter tropical Riesling. However, a Chardonnay can play well with some dishes.”

The selection from Elvis Presley includes: Jailhouse Rock (a richly flavored Merlot), The King Of Rock & Roll (a flashy Cabernet Sauvignon), Blue Suede (a vibrant Chardonnay), and Blue Hawaii (a tropical Riesling). The Riesling, Wong says, works especially well with spicier foods.

While this is not the first time Elvis Presley wines have been offered on the market, the wine crafters say that this is the first edition line. Occasionally, the winery creates seasonal wines. For example, it offered an Elvis Christmas Pinot Noir last Thanksgiving. The wine cellar also produced 2007 Old Vine Zinfandel.

To review a complete menu, visit http://www.kungfuplaza.com. Kung Fu Plaza delivers within a five-mile radius and is located at 3505 S. Valley View Blvd., which is just west of the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip. For reservations, call 702-247-4120.

Founded in 1973, Kung Fu Plaza is the oldest and most authentic Chinese and Thai restaurant in Las Vegas. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The average entree is under $ 10 and most patrons order family style.

Jailhouse Rock — A richly flavored Merlot with an aroma of black cherries and jam, flavors of vanilla and sweet oak, and plush tannins.
The King Of Rock & Roll — A flashy Cabernet Sauvignon with an aroma of black cherry, plums and peppercorn, with bold tannins and a generous finish.
Blue Suede — A vibrant Chardonnay with tropical fruit aromas, flavors of pear and melon, and a juicy full finish.
Blue Hawaii — A tropical Riesling with hints of honeysuckle and spice, flavors of crisp apple and pear, and a juicy full finish.

iharmonix Q-i-Sound

Panorama City, Calif. (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

Mobile technology visionary, Qmadix, proudly reveals iharmonix Q-i-sound, Tempered Tech-Armor, and Boostpac Eclipse at CTIA Wireless 2012. These innovative accessory solutions are focused on enhancing the mobile user experience. CTIA attendees will get full experience at 11 AM (CDT) at CTIA Wireless.

In January, 2012, the iharmonix Q-i-Sound prototype first came on the scene at the world-renowned CES convention in Las Vegas. These compact Bluetooth speakers sent ripples through the tech world with its revolutionary easily-portable-meets-high-performance functionality. It is the first portable sound system of its kind that is designed to pair wirelessly with any mobile Bluetooth Smartphone and tablet.

“Until now, there hasn’t been anything that could deliver high performance true stereo sound separation via Bluetooth without being plugged into a power source. The iharmonix Q-i-sound by Qmadix is designed to give our customers a portable home-quality sound experience anywhere.” – David Khalepari, CEO, Qmadix.

Tempered Tech-Armor Glass Screen Protector utilizes an innovative tempered triplex technology, which prevents the iPhone glass from shattering or scratching when dropped. The tempered glass is .03mm thick, but has strength greater than 9 times the breaking threshold of conventional glass. With propriety surface coating, the screen is resistant to fingerprints and smudges. Quality testing confirms the Tech-Armor tempered glass maintains the same touch sensitivity as designed by factory iPhone settings.

“Buying an iPhone or any smartphone isn’t just making a purchase – it’s making an investment. Our Tempered Tech-Armor Glass Screen Proctor is designed to ensure maximum screen protection. Once applied, it’s nearly undetectable and shatterproof.” – said Khalepari.

The boostpac eclipse is a compact universal rechargeable auxiliary battery pack fitted with Smart Technology to properly charge iPhone, iPod, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Blackberry and most devices with Micro USB ports. Smart Technology ensures that both Apple and Android devices are charged at the proper amperage. It also automatically shuts off when the phone is done charging. This maintains the integrity of the factory charging specifications and battery levels. The LED battery indicator makes it easy for consumers to see how much battery is available.

“Our boostpac eclipse is elegantly tailored for our customers to enjoy their mobile devices the way wireless devices are intended to be used. Ultimately, we are making being tethered to a wall-plug a thing of the past because it gives customers freedom to charge anywhere. The boostpac eclipse is perfect for business professionals, travelers, sharing with friends and anyone who doesn’t always have time to wait for their phones to charge in the wall.” –Khalepari.

Business Car Manager News: New GTI Cabriolet is Now Available

Business Car Manager News: New GTI Cabriolet is Now Available

(PRWEB UK) 11 May 2012

Forget the showers and look forward to summer with the imminent arrival of the eagerly awaited VW Golf GTI Cabriolet.

Following its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the new GTI Cabriolet is now available to order at Volkswagen retailers, from £29,310 for the manual version and rising to £30,610 for the DSG.

Living up to this name, the Golf GTI Cabriolet has all the classic design cues. The radiator grille has a honeycomb structure with red edging and GTI badge, while the front bumper incorporates a deep honeycomb air dam and distinctive fog lights. Side sill extensions help give the GTI a wide, well-planted stance, while a bespoke rear diffuser is framed by a chrome tailpipe on either side. Smoked LED tail lights complete the look, along with standard 18-inch ‘Monza Shadow’ alloy wheels.

Inside, and under the insulated fully automatic electrically powered roof are four seats covered in the classic tartan ‘Jacara’ cloth upholstery; ‘Vienna’ leather upholstery is optional. The bespoke GTI multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in leather, as are the handbrake and gear lever gaiter, all finished with contrasting red stitching. The pedals have brushed stainless steel caps, while there are black ‘Edge’ decorative inlays on the doors and facia. The hood, which can be folded away in just 9.5 seconds, even while travelling at speeds of up to 18 mph, has a black lining, while the roof pillar trims are also finished in black.

At the heart of the range-topping cabriolet is the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine found in the GTI hatchback, mated to either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional six-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox and producing 210 PS.

The benchmark zero to 62 mph sprint is covered in 7.3 seconds with either transmission, while top speed is 147 mph (146 DSG). Combined fuel consumption is 37.2 mpg (36.7 DSG), with CO2 emissions of 177 g/km (180 DSG).

Maximum torque of 206 lbs ft (280 Nm) is available from just 1,700 rpm to 5,300 rpm and this broad torque band helps to make the GTI an excellent cruiser.

A standard EDS electronic differential lock and XDS transverse differential lock help to ensure that the power is easily transferred to the road.

The GTI comes with automatically deploying rollover protection, front and side head/thorax airbags and a driver’s knee airbag as standard, and a five-star (96 per cent) rating for adult occupancy in Euro NCAP crash tests. The ABI insurance rating for the new Golf Cabriolet GTI is 35E and first deliveries are due in July.

Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) May 11, 2012

Survivalist Food is pleased to announce the arrival of seasoned freeze dried meats. The new Grab & Go Meat Bucket includes roasted chicken, southwest style chicken, teriyaki style chicken, savory roasted ground beef, cheesy ground beef, and stroganoff style beef.

A year food supply isn’t complete without the good flavor that real seasoned chicken or beef can provide. Including a combination of all of these emergency food items can bring the peace of mind knowing that food won’t be an issue in a sudden emergency or natural disaster.

There are several advantages to choosing Wise Company gourmet freeze dried meat.

1. Long Shelf Life – Wise freeze dried meats have an extended shelf life of up to 15 years. And unlike standard dehydrated foods, Wise freeze dried meats retain color, texture, flavor, and most importantly nutrition. Also, Wise’s freeze dried meals have a shelf life of up to 25 years.

2. They Taste Great – These freeze dried meats are seasoned to ensure optimal taste, texture, and nutritional value.

3. Lightweight and ready to transport – There is also no need to lug around big #10 Cans because Wise Freeze Dried Meats are condensed, lightweight, and come packaged in individual Mylar pouches. These Nitrogen packed pouches remove the majority of the residual oxygen insuring the food’s long life. The pouches are stored in easy to carry grab and go high impact plastic containers.

Hotel Rates in Munich Rise up to 1000 Percent for Champions League Final, Survey Shows

Hotel Rates in Munich Rise up to 1000 Percent for Champions League Final, Survey Shows

(PRWEB UK) 11 May 2012

Chelsea fans who hope to cheer on their team at the UEFA Champions League final on May 19 had better make sure their bank accounts are padded. As the title game date fast approaches, hotel owners in the host city of Munich are increasing their rates by up to 1000%.

According to a recent survey by CheapHotels.org, about 20 hotels around Munich are still posting vacancies at this late date. Unfortunately for European football fans making last-minute plans to attend the championship final, however, many of them are hiking their rates substantially.

For example, the Hotel Maria Munich, which is located near St. Paul’s Church, has elevated its regular room price of Euro 85 to a whopping Euro 999 for the UEFA final. That figure represents a 1075% price increase. Not far behind is the Hotel Munich Inn, situated close to Central Station. This accommodation that usually charges Euro 81 per night has hiked its rates to Euro 899 for game day. That equates to a 1010% spike in price.

Alas, there are no bargains to be had in Munich. In fact, Chelsea fans will have to pay Euro 450 for the cheapest double room anywhere in the city, with single rooms coming in a bit less costly. Deal seekers do have an affordable alternative, though. If they stay in the neighbouring city of Augsburg, they can travel into Munich by direct train in under an hour. They’ll still enjoy all the football action, have access to return trains until 3:00 in the morning, yet pay a fraction what they would to stay in Munich. A double room in Ausburg for the May 19 championship game is going for around Euro 100 per night.

Mexican Insurance Store Customers are Saving More Money Online

Mexican Insurance Store Customers are Saving More Money Online

Mexican Auto Insurance by Mexican Insurance Store.com

(PRWEB) February 08, 2012

As 2012 enters its second month, a lot of excitement is afoot at Mexican Insurance Store. The popular online Mexican insurance provider is seeing a sharp increase in sales in Feburary so far this month. Saving money by lowering rates and adding several upgrades that were made in 2011 could be behind those numbers, but the company’s ongoing commitment to superior customer service undoubtedly plays a role as well. “We’ve been doing better and better with each passing month,” notes Linden Gray, the president of Mexican Insurance Store. “It’s one trend that we’re understandably thrilled about, and we’d like to keep up this momentum throughout the rest of the year.” Travelers are increasingly turning to Mexican auto insurance online , and that’s another reason for the company’s skyrocketing success. “When people search for Mexican auto insurance online, they often find us,” adds Gray.

For a long time, the majority of people who drove down to Mexico purchased their car insurance for Mexico at the border. The Internet has raised awareness about the higher prices and lower quality of the policies that are sold at the border, and more people are going online for this coverage than ever. “We’re one of the most well-established providers of Mexican auto insurance online today,” says one employee. “We come up near the top of the results on the major search engines, and there are a ton of positive reviews about us online as well.

The search engines are just a part of the equation when it comes to Mexican Insurance Store’s ongoing success. In 2011, the company became extremely active on social media and social networking websites. The move made it easier for the insurance provider to get in touch with even larger groups of people. “We’ve connected with a broader audience of travelers than ever since we’ve started being active on sites like Twitter and Facebook,” says one employee. “It didn’t happen overnight, but once the ball got rolling, we started getting a lot more business. We’re expecting more of the same this year.”

The big winners in this situation are travelers. “It’s easier than ever for travelers to save considerable amounts of money on Mexican auto insurance,” says one employee. Mexican Insurance Store is drawing in new customers all the time, and the company enjoys a lot of repeat business as well. “I’ve been buying car insurance for Mexico from Mexican Insurance Store for a few years now,” says one longtime customer. “When friends find out how little I pay for this coverage and what I get, they immediately want to know where I’m getting it. I’ve referred a ton of people to Mexican Insurance Store and will continue to do so.”

If superior customer service is a top priority of Mexican Insurance Store, providing high-quality, affordable coverage is right at the top of the list as well. “We started this business to show travelers that they were not getting a good deal at the border,” says one employee. “There is absolutely no good reason to spend huge amounts of money on this type of coverage. We connect travelers with affordable policies that are exceptionally high in quality too.” If the first month of 2012 is any indication, the rest of the year is sure to be especially kind to Mexican Insurance Store.

Musician and Quilting Icon Ricky Tims Announces 3rd Annual ?AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest? Winners at AQS-Paducah Quilt Show

Musician and Quilting Icon Ricky Tims Announces 3rd Annual “AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest” Winners at AQS-Paducah Quilt Show

Stitching is the real fun of quilting and fabric crafting. AccuQuilt GO!® fabric cutters help quilters get the fun faster.

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

On April 27, 2012, on behalf of AccuQuilt, international distributor of fabric cutting solutions for quilting and fabric crafts, quilt industry icon Ricky Tims announced winners of the third annual AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest at the American Quilter Society (AQS) quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky.

The grand prize winner is Belinda Karls-Nace, a cross-stitch pattern designer from Des Moines, Iowa. A 17-foot painted version of her winning quilt block design will be displayed for a year on the outside of the new AccuQuilt headquarters building in Omaha, Nebraska, where tens of thousands of people are expected to see it as they drive by on Interstate 80. The grand prize package includes a trip for two to Omaha for the official barn quilt unveiling, two tickets to one of two Let’s GO! Quilt Retreats taking place before and after the unveiling, and a $ 1,000-dollar shopping spree for AccuQuilt product.

Second runner up, Carol Johnson, is a truck driver and quilter from North Bay, Ontario. A six-foot painted version of Johnson’s winning design will be displayed for the next year inside AccuQuilt headquarters. Carol’s runner-up prizes include a $ 250-dollar shopping spree with AccuQuilt and one ticket to a June AccuQuilt Let’s GO! Quilt Retreat retreat. She and her husband are considering driving from Ontario to Nebraska to attend the unveiling and retreat.

Hundreds of original designs were submitted for the contest, and the top 100 designs earned their designers $ 25 in Rewards Points with AccuQuilt. “We love the fact that quilting brings communities together. It’s one of the reasons we enjoy our work so much. We are proud of the part the annual AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest is able to play in bringing members of the quilting community together to vote on designs and celebrate this beloved traditional art,” said Steve Nabity, AccuQult CEO.

Winners of AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest Share their Quilting Stories

Karls-Nace created her first quilt at the age of 12, and has quilted seriously for the past six years. Her favorite types of quilting are home decor projects, appliqué and miniature quilts. No matter what the quilting project, because she works as a cross-stitch pattern designer, she finds she uses personal quilting time to relax and do something special for herself. On busy days, that sometimes amounts to only a few minutes of quilting. She uses all three AccuQuilt® fabric cutters to help her save time quilting. She uses the GO!® and GO! Baby® fabric cutters when she needs to be portable or cut just a few pieces for a project. The AccuQuilt® Studio™ Fabric Cutter has a place of honor in her home studio, where she uses it to cut more layers at a time, often using it to help prepare class kits for the classes she teaches.

“When I first heard the phone message saying I had won the AccuQuilt Barn Quilt Design Contest, I squealed like a little girl,” Karls-Nace said. “Then I thought, that can’t be right. Someone must be playing a joke on me.”

Johnson has been quilting since the early 1990s, when she picked up a quilting magazine and decided to make a quilt for her daughter. Her grandmother quilted and so does her mother, who began quilting even more after Carol became interested. Carol’s favorite projects are those with large spaces that allow stitched designs. She hopes to someday do a whole cloth quilt, so she can experiment with free-motion quilting. She also likes to break away from tradition, finding ways to break the rules to create unique projects. Carol is a truck driver by trade and often takes hand stitched projects with her on the road as a creative outlet.

“People think I’m crazy. They ask, ‘Why would you want to cut up fabric into little pieces only to sew them back together?’ They also wonder why on earth I would want to drive a truck,” she laughs, “but I’ve been doing that for the past eight years. Yes, I’m crazy about both quilting and driving!”

Every spring, AccuQuilt invites quilters, fabric artists and designers from any discipline to enter designs for the barn quilt design contest. This year, designs were due by April 9, 2012. Entries were posted on the AccuQuilt website, where consumers were invited to vote on their favorite designs from April 11 through April 18. The unveiling event will take place on June 22, 2012, at AccuQuilt’s new Omaha headquarters building, in conjunction with Let’s GO! Quilt Retreats, one before and one after the unveiling event. Sponsored by AccuQuilt and Country Traditions, the retreats coincide with the Omaha Quilt Show, which is taking place right next door at the same time.

The concept of barn quilts began with Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother, Maxine, and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn in Adams County, Ohio. As friends encouraged her to complete the project, Donna Sue instead suggested that a “sampler” of twenty quilt squares could be created along a driving trail that would invite visitors to travel through the countryside. The first quilt square was an Ohio Star, painted by local artists and installed in 2001 on a building at a greenhouse in Manchester, Ohio. With encouragement from Donna Sue Groves, other quilt trails were started in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Iowa. This simple idea gradually spread to 36 states and to Canada, and the trail continues to grow. Over 4,000 quilts are part of organized trails; dozens more are scattered through the countryside waiting to be discovered. Find more information at http://www.barnquiltinfo.com
